Day at the Beach

Lets leave town early morning, and spend a few hours paddling and at the beach at Masonboro Island, then in the afternoon we can visit the the Wooden Boat Show.
Plan to arrive at Trails End boat ramp (lots of parking available) about 9:30 for a 10:00 am launch. Just google or mapquest 609 Trails End Road. We'll paddle about 2 miles through the salt marsh and bays over to Masonboro.
It's a very short walk over to the beach where we can spend a couple hours of sun, fun, lunch, swimming, and walks on the beach. We'll plan to return from the Island about 1:30 or 2:00pm, return to the cars and head over to the Boat Show which runs till 4:30.
We can cap the day off with an early evening seafood dinner before returning back home. This is a great trip for all skill levels, and any type of canoe or kayak, as it’s a fairly short paddle over to the Island.

" I had a great time, a little sore today but it was worth it"

"The day at the beach was great! We had a great paddle despite battling some tough winds on the return trip, but it all worked out fine. Thank goodness for the meal afterwards."

A night to pratice old skills and work on some new ones. This is a mentor style class.
Everyone has a skill they can teach. It is fun to teach skills, and it helps you learn it better by teaching. Fun for all!

When Thunderstorms are predicted and winds pick up, prudent paddlers stay off the lake!:))

I'm hoping to take some pics, but it's hard to surf and shoot :)

Tamas

Everyone seemed to have a great time, and conditions were just perfect with primarily 1-2 ft waves (and a few 3 footers on Saturday). Lots of lessons learned from understanding your own limits, discovering which skills need some more work, putting recovery braces and balance into practice, and discovering the thrill of taking off on a wave.
Tamas, a big grizzly bear of a guy, wins the prize for best balance in the class. This was his first time ever in the ocean, and he never flipped in the surf once, and he was out on Saturday with the larger surf. He had a huge smile on his face throughout, and when we came to shore he looked me and said "I may never want to paddle on the lake again".

Please note:
This is not a beginner kayaking class, this is a beginner surf class for seakayaks. There is an expectation that you already have a reasonable forward stroke, know how to maneuver with sweep strokes and stern rudder, are getting comfortable edging and bracing with a low brace, and have learned and practiced wet exits and assisted rescues in flat water.
Part of the class will be in building and fine tuning these skills in rough water, but you should have them in flat water now.
If you have any concerns or questions about your skills, please feel free to call Lamar at BIK 252-393-6457.
The class will be quite physical and tiring, but so much fun! Don’t forget to bring water, snacks, lunch and sunscreen, and croakies or some other holder for your glasses or sunglasses.
