South river , Falcon,nc

At high waters there are no sandbars. And no banks.
The main current of the river cuts across the continuous oxbows through the forest and, trust me, you don't want to go there !!!!

The South River flows along the western border of Sampson County.
It begins 7 miles south of Dunn at the confluence of its headwaters, Mingo Swamp
and the Black River. This Black River, beginning in Harnett County near Angier,
is often called the Little Black so that it is not confused with the much larger
and more well-known Black River beginning in southern Sampson County.
Near its beginning, the South River is less than 4 miles east of the Cape Fear River.
It is a blackwater stream with low to swampy banks and significant stands of cypress trees. The South River empties into the Black River, 30 miles south of Clinton.
Falcon and Autryville are the only small towns to border the river.
Occasional homes, farms, and logged land are seen, but a trip down the 85 miles of sections described is mainly one of splendid isolation.
The lower 50 miles of the South River were designated Outstanding Resource Waters in 1994. This eTrail contains 10 sections of the South River from Green Path Road (Sampson Co. 1005) bridge at Falcon to Beattys Bridge Road (Bladen Co. 1550) bridge on Black River.
